Myotsuji is a Buddhist temple located about 7 km southeast of Obama station.
And it is located about 5 km southeast of Higashi-Obama station.
Both "o" and "u" in the word are pronounced long, so it is reas as "Myôtsûji".
It is said that this temple was founded by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in the 806.
He was a Shogun and led his army for conquest of the Tohoku Region in this period.
He also founded Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto.
The temple is surrounded by forest in the mountain.

The main hall was built in 1258, and is designated as a national treasure.
It was overhauled in 1923.
Some important Buddha statues are enshrined in the hall.
The three-story pagoda is also designated as a national treasure.
It was built in 1270.
The height is about 22 meters, and two Buddha statues are enshrined in the pagoda.
